Privacy Policy
What data Stack & Scale collects, why, and the choices you have.
This policy explains what information Stack & Scale ("we") collects when you read the blog, subscribe to the newsletter, leave a comment, or pitch an article, and how that information is used. We collect as little as possible.
What we collect
When you read
- Aggregate article statistics. We count views and likes per article. These counters are not linked to you.
- Privacy-friendly analytics. When the site runs on Vercel, we use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights, which measure page views and performance without cookies. If Google Analytics 4 is enabled on this site, it may set cookies to measure visits; you can block them with your browser settings or an extension.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider may briefly log technical data such as IP addresses to keep the service secure and running.
When you subscribe to the newsletter
We store your email address, your first name if you provide it, and when you subscribed and confirmed. Depending on configuration, the list is kept in our own database (with emails sent through Resend) or with a newsletter provider such as Kit or Mailchimp.
When you comment
We store the name you enter, your comment, and a one-way, salted hash of your IP address. The hash helps us fight spam and abuse; we never store your raw IP address with a comment.
When you pitch an article
We store the details you send: your name, email address, links, and pitch, so the editor can review and reply.
What stays on your device
Your theme preference, reading list, liked articles, and newsletter-bar settings are saved in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device.
How we use information
- To send the newsletter you asked for, and only that
- To display and moderate comments
- To review pitches and reply to you
- To understand which articles are useful, in aggregate
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information for advertising.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of providers to run the site: hosting (such as Vercel), a database (such as MongoDB Atlas), and email delivery (such as Resend, Kit, or Mailchimp). They process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments.
How long we keep data
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe, plus a short period for record keeping
- Comments: for as long as the comment is published, or until you ask us to remove it
- Pitches: up to two years, or until you ask us to delete them
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe with one click from any newsletter email.
- Ask for access, correction, or deletion of your data by contacting us.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, or California), you may have additional rights under local law.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
